happy that when I set out to do it I managed to tho🥳I have more than doubled the number of fics I have on ao3 lol (I think I had 11 or something, and now there's an entire 37). Also doubled my fandom count on there!

+14 for Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Spike/oc +11 for Slipknot - I'm a little sad I didn't do the most for this, but I think I wrote the most stuff new during February itself for Slipknot because I crave hurting Joey too much. Slipknot still wins overall on my ao3 tho +3 for Letterkenny because I fucking love that show

I think I'm probably proudest of my Slipknot fics this month, and since this is a Slipknot blog, I am going to yell about my fave ones of those here! I finally summoned the Toasterverse from the mist, which is a mysterious urban magic au full of ratty magic men and I'm happy with how it turned out!! now I just need the motivation to write more of it without a challenge forcing me to lol (I want to, I will try!)

I also managed to write something I was proud of after struggling with the prompt a lot: In the Middle of the Monster. It's like a little horror mini and I hope it's just unnerving enough

I might be most pleased with Bleed for You - the angst and betrayal!! Evil Chris? A past that can never come back? Worried Paul on the phone?

And the highscool aus!! Corey and Joey fall out over a misunderstanding which I swear I never use in fics, but here we are in I can take anything (make me). And Corey (and his Gran) taking care of Joey after he gets locked out in the cold in The Light is Brighter This Time. Ft. the awkwardness of asking your friend for help, and crying over hot cocoa, and sharing a bed.

Special mentions to Joey also getting assaulted and spiked :D both featuring a very angry and violently inclined Shawn which has been a hit in the past lol

idk what this post is for but like... I finished a whole month of fics so it kind of feels like I should say something yknow. and there's a febuwhump comment marathon coming up so like 👀 if u wanna give me a shout pls do so. as someone whos seen btvs before i love seeing how excited you are to be watching it (and also angel) so far whos ur fave character? also do u know that theres comics?

Yes! I have SO much media to catch up on, but I'm so happy because a series hasn't gripped me like this for a while, and I've never been one to be super-into vampire tropes, but the show is super-well written, and you can see why Buffy actually did become a feminist icon- she's so well-written, likeable, and multi-dimensional, which I'm extremely happy about, because I feel like without coming off as a "pick me," I find finding well-written female characters who actually STAR in the show really difficult to relate to, usually. They're usually too bland in order to be appeal to everybody, or just written in such a one dimensional way.

Buffy is great, because even though there are some elements that usually on shows you'd find annoying in less well-written characters (Like her shitty GPA, not really caring about school etc. Which is giving very Sailor Moon energy), it's understandable with the literal weight of the world on her shoulders. Or even liking guys- it's not done in a way that while she wants to have a relationship, and even though she pushes against it, often- she's a good enough person to put others first. It's like WOW WOMEN CAN CONTAIN MULTITUDES, WHODA THUNK.

I'm actually going home for Reading Week from my Masters program this coming week, so I actually ordered a ridiculous amount of the comics from my local library, and can't wait to catch up. <3

As for fave characters, I've got a couple. I actually surprisingly like Buffy, as I said, which is rare for me (For example, my favourite characters in Gilmore Girls, even though I love the show, are definitely not the Gilmore Girls. Same with Sailor Moon).

I actually really like Giles, too- I did that 100 Character Quiz a couple of months ago, where they pull characters from several fandoms and make a list by percentage of which ones you're most like, and I did get Giles. I also like Willow, Xander can jump off a cliff, and love Spike, but I knew I would.

The last character that apparently I'm going to grow to like (Just started Season two), is apparently Cordelia. My friend who watched the entire show growing up says I remind her of Cordelia because "Cordelia is the only person on that show sometimes with goddamn common sense," so I'll take that as the compliment it is (Also it took me forever to get my driver's license, too- so I'll take it for the backhanded compliment it is xoxo).

5. What’s a fandom you think you’re leaving behind? I accepted an Overwatch commission for Kinktober that I'd like to add one last chapter to, but after that I really do think I'm finished writing for the game. All the parts of the story and characters that I really enjoyed have kind of fallen away and the community that I enjoyed with the game has all moved on to different fandoms several times over (but I still lov u guys <3)

7. What’s a fandom you think you’re going to work with a lot in the new year? Teen Wolf will probably be a decent percentage of my wordcount again LOL. I have quite a lot of unposted fic that I want to try and get up in the beginning of the new year. I still have new ground to cover with the different characters and the fandom is still alive and well. Everyone is very friendly and supportive, and I love seeing the way we inspire each other with our fics <3

9. Is there an upcoming show/movie/book that you think will lure you into a new fandom? I don't tend to watch new things that are coming out, but I have intentions to finish a lot of older shows/games next year. Leverage, Hannibal, and Buffy are on my list for TV shows, and I want to play Halo and Witcher for bigger game series but mostly I like smaller indie titles and I have quite a few to catch up on. I also want to try and get back into older anime as well.

first of all hai hello i updated my pinned post if u wanna know more ab me n the shit i'm into second of all i canNOT stop thinking about the dancing scene. soft blitz is real and i LOOOOVE it with this new material i'm thinking about what his love languages might be... hmmm... i mean acts of service for sure i saw one post, though i can't remember who it was from- they talked ab the idea of blitz's love language being like- giving attention? mayhaps? anyway that aside, now that i'm somewhat geared up for writing, it'll probably be just a bunch of self-ship dialogue and rambles for blitz x the hopeless romantic and sensitive sinner but I'M SO EXCITED????

this COULD be an idea for you, i might write something for it as well, but i think a good start could be introducing/combining christmas/holiday of choice and sinsmas traditions, like different foods or activities, that could give you some soft stuff to branch off of since the holidays make me feel warm n comfy-cozy sometimes :3

thought about making pinterest boards again,,, i'd be happy to make some for stuff you write or for help with scenes or settings if you want cuz i REALLY like making pinterest boards and it helps me a lot with my idea process,,, it may not be exactly what you envision because we're different people n all that but maybe just for funsies :3

that dance has been living rent free in my mind since I watched it. I feel like I've watched it at least once an hour every hour since then?? because they're just so soft and warm and blitz's voice in the scene and omg brandon how do you go from "get your hands off my bottom biiiiitch" to the softness of "only as creative as you were flexible" and not expect me to like, die?

I feel like blitz has like, most of the love languages in his repetoire, which is ridiculous considering how emotionally constipated the lizard usually is lol. I think definitely physical touch and acts of service, and I'd say quality time too (having moxxie and millie days on his calendar, and honestly in the last episode words of affirmation seems like a big one (honestly, not a surprise when you look at how he talks to his loony-toony lol). I wouldn't be surprised if he hits all of them and gift-giving is one too, even if they're weird gifts. Like his version of a cat bringing you dead things because it loves you lmao.

I can't wait to see what you come up with! I feel like I'm not seeing as much blitz x reader content as I was when I first joined the fandom, which makes me sad. I need more of it!

Natalie Scatorcio, Yellowjackets - 2 cannibal queens in a row I must have a type <3 I love a tragic hero who is also a violent, dangerous & unstable individual. forgiveness is a nice idea but my poor doomed antler queen will never live to see it... she was a gentle soul (ignore the atrocities) who never got to see a single moment of peace or gentleness in her life

4. Sam Carpenter, Scream - it was nearly impossible for me to pick between my best girls Sidney, Emma, & Sam for this list but I have to go Sam. she's the daughter of a serial killer. she enjoys stabbing people. she sees visions of her dead dad telling her to kill but she loves her friends & her sister more than anything. i adore my dangerous & violent but also oh so sweet babygirl

5. Faith Lehane Buffy the Vampire Slayer - listen, Buffy is the obvious choice for the best character in Buffy OFC. but have you considered. faith is broken & hurt & a little crazy with jealousy & obsession with buffy. she's the dark slayer. she has a dynamic with the wacky evil demonic town mayor that mirrors buffy's relationship with her wholesome (mostly. sometimes demon rebelly) librarian mentor as the dark side of the coin. she's never had anyone pick her first & it kills her but she pretends she doesn't care. i'd die for her

6. Baby Firefly - this time not a confirmed cannibal but my girl is into corpse desecration & necrophilia so I think this is a great list that proves I have excellent taste in fictional characters. "there is no wrong. if someone needs to be killed you kill 'em! that's the way :)"

7. Beth Salinger, Hostel 2 - fave final girl my bestie had a hot lesbian enemies to almost lovers to beheading you & playing soccer with the head dynamic with an evil secret society member who tried to lure her to her death. she also cut off the penis of the man who dared to fuck with her & fed it to a dog so like what more can you even want from a character <3

8. Dennis Reynolds IASIP - having dennis as my fave is soo embarrassing he's such a basic fave but genuinely he's SO fucking pathetic & sad beneath the layers of fake manipulative suave cool rich kid that he thinks he conveys (he doesn't). he's literally just a sad little girl who falls apart & curls up on he ground crying when things get overwhelming. everyone who doesn't understand him thinks he's a mastermind serial killer but they are FALLING FOR HIS ACT

Katherine Pierce TVD - THEY HATE TO SEE A GIRLBOSS WINNINGGGGGGG (I don't know Scarlet Witch but I think it's funny to steal the description for #9 for Katherine from the person who tagged me in this hehe) anyway it's funny for me to pick Katherine when I named my cat damon & I have a ginormous shirtless poster of ian somerhalder literally over my bed I'm looking at it right now BUT hear me out. Katherine is my real fave. unforgivable villain who always chooses herself first & also mirrors the protagonist & also she was just a girl once too, a pregnant, scared young girl. if the writers cared about me specifically at all we would've gotten a spin off of Katherine & her daughter instead of what we got

10. Annie Edison Community - much like with buffy the vampire slayer & buffy summers, there is a correct answer to which community character is objectively the best & it's obviously abed. BUT my subjective fave that I latch onto is annie. she's just so babygirl. she had a nervous breakdown in high school because she was always too perfect. she's just out of rehab for adderall when we meet her but it's mostly only referenced or flashed back to as a joke. we never meet her parents but the quotes she references from them are deeply disturbing if you turn off the laugh track & pay attention. she has a fucked up relationship with her good older male friend because #daddy issues. she is obsessed with true crime. there's a monkey named after her boobs. she's the ONLY member of the study group who could've EVER lived with troy & abed & incorporated herself into their dynamic the way she does in episodes like foosball & nocturnal vigilantism. my girl is so silly & a little crazy <3

I love to work at the daycare in my free time, breeding and taking care of pokémon whenever I can! I also love going surfing with my gyarados and my lapras (and many other water-type pokémon I posess, hehe >u<)!

Although I do prefer water types, I am not picky with my pokémon! Despite having a few that scare me, or others that I struggle to work with... I love them equally! Especially if they are cute!

i like to ship cordi with milo but honestly my hyperfixation can never settle on one character (i also wanted her to be available for potential oc shipping shenanigans) so i just made her single. yeah. also she's bubbly and cheerful but can be flustered very easily! i really dunno what to add temporarily since she's not really fleshed out but yeah!! i'm glad if anyone checks out the blog and reads this!! thank you!

I don't know if this is welcome bc I know you haven't written any hayffie fics in a while and u distanced yourself from the fandom but I just wanna say I binge read your entire buffy the vampire slayer thg au fic and it's probably the best decision I have ever made in my entire life. It's been on my to-read list in a while and the only reason I didn't read it way earlier is bc Idk jack shit about buffy the vampire slayer bc I haven't seen it. But after reading your works on that I'm so invested to the point I can't read any other fic for now bc all I think about is that au. I can't read canon fic for now bc I've been expecting magic and shit every chapter without even noticing it. My favourite episode/part is the last one, it's so beautifully done. I don't like Gale but goodness he's the best choice for an outsider's pov when viewing hayffie. The character study in there is so gooooddd. The dark witch! Effie is so well written as well as the demon hunter! Haymitch. It's an au within an au and I love that so much. You managed to write these characters as different version of themselves while still managing to make them in-character and not ooc, them and their actions still made sense. That's also the episode where I cried the most, the battle with Effie and Haymitch against the demons is so well written that I can see the actions vividly in the head. Anyway you don't have to reply to this, I just want to say I love that work so much and appreciate you <3

BUFFY:

The first character I first fell in love with: Queen C <3 The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: I truly have no answer for this question. There are characters I didn't vibe with on Buffy who I loved on Angel (see below) but I don't think anyone who stayed on Buffy rose in my estimation to a particularly surprising or impressive degree. The character everyone else loves that I don’t: Oz, who is actually my least favorite Buffyverse character. He bores me and I think being boring is the worst offense a TV character can commit. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ The character I love that everyone else hates: You know ten years ago I could've said Dawn and it would've been a good answer. For all that Buffy fandom on Tumblr has mutated in some ways I dislike, I am at least glad to say that Dawn no longer works as an answer to this question. ...Unfortunately that means I don't have an answer for this question lol. I like Riley okay, I think he's funny, but I don't love him and I think his arc goes to a deeply weird place after S4. The character I used to love but don’t any longer: Giles. I first watched the show when I was 14 and I enjoyed Giles's snark. But as I've gotten older and become a whole adult I find myself liking him less and less. I have serious issues with how he treats Buffy and Xander and I admit to finding the whole Ripper backstory rather dull. I understand that he isn't actually supposed to be an ideal father figure, he's supposed to be flawed, etc., but his flaws are not ones I find terribly interesting and fandom's insistence on painting him as Buffy's awesome dad deeply grates on me.  The character I’d want to be like: I admire Anya's lack of shame, willingness to call out bullshit, and financial literacy. Otherwise, I wouldn't want to be like any of these people lol. The character I’d slap: And if I said Willow Rosenberg...? A pairing that I love: For all its many flaws and complications, and for all that I think some of its fans simply should not be allowed to speak on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, I do still harbor a deep affection for Spuffy, particularly in the end of S5/beginning of S6 era. A pairing that I despise: It's gotta be Bangel sorry Bangel mutuals/followers 😔 but I am trying to be nicer about it #livingandlearning

ANGEL:

The first character I first fell in love with: Cordelia Chase of course. The song remains the same. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: ANGEL my mans I thought he was sooo boring on Buffy lol and now he is my second favorite Buffyverse character <33333 love that guy!!! (But also Darla because she truly did nothing for me in Buffy S1 but she is so amazing on Angel.) The character everyone else loves that I don’t: Okay, so, I do like Fred. There are times (like in late S2, early S3, and the Jasmine arc) when I see potential in her for a really great and interesting character, and I think Amy Acker is actually the strongest actor in the cast. But a lot of the time she is written to be, like, the generic awkward nerdy waif character you see in every Whedon property, and I don't find that archetype terribly appealing. I also think the insistence on constantly sticking her into love triangles served her character really poorly, especially since I was never particularly convinced that she and any of her suitors actually knew each other very well. The character I love that everyone else hates: Connor fans RISE!!! The character I used to love but don’t any longer: When I first watched the show I really liked Lindsey in Seasons 1 & 2. I loved his sendoff episode and thought he was a great character. ...Then he came back.  The character I’d want to be like: I'm going to steal your answer and say Anne Steele because I truly do think she is probably the most aspirational hero in the Buffyverse. The character I’d slap: Disclaimer that I do love Wesley BUT I would slap him in late S5 after Fred dies and he starts acting like he is the only person who knew her even though they went on like one date. In particular I would slap him for stabbing Gunn which. Fuck you, man. You would've signed the paper too. A pairing that I love: Cangel obviously. But also Weslah. A pairing that I despise: Fresley my nemesis!!! >:[

idk my dash is so well curated and i'm not in maintags very often so i feel like i'm pretty well insulated from bad takes. however, the worst ones i see usually seem to crop up in a ship war context which is SO tired in 2023 for a show that's like literally 25 years old lmao. anyway, hardcore sp*ffy-vs-b*ngel girlies u need to chill, you both had plenty to eat. me and the real faith-heads i'm friends with have been surviving on crumbs for decades. check your privilege. all of buffy's love interests variously suck and are guilty of unforgivable trespasses. lets get you some fruit, bitch.

although okay there WAS some discourse i saw get ugly a while back about like. spike and gender stereotyping. spike is like a woman for painting his nails and liking poetry and soap operas and when there was the slightest pushback on that for being kind of a yikes thing to be saying with your whole chest it DID quickly deteriorate into mean back biting so that fuckin sucked. that feels worst-take worthy

U - Three favorite characters from three different fandoms, and why they’re your favorites.

Okay, having revealed exactly how long I've been reading fic, let's go oldschool.

1 - Fraser from Due South. Due South is on the surface a deeply unhinged police procedural about a Mountie from Canada's far north who is a liaison for the Canadian Consulate in Chicago for reasons that don't need exploring at this juncture (*tm) partnered with a Chicago cop. And, on another level it is a show about a deeply kind man, but a man who is also deeply stubborn and set in his ways, who is out of place and unhappy, but has the mind set of we make the best of it and don't complain too ingrained to ever admit that he's unhappy. I love him so much. Also doesn't hurt that the actor is Paul Gross, just saying.

2 - Stiles Stilinski. Okay, confession, I read my way through all of TW fandom without having seen the show. I ended up watching the first couple of seasons sometime during the pandemic and kept going - okay, wait, that shit was actually canon? This show was wild. That said, I love that Stiles's superpower is research, and being smart. He's surrounded by werewolves (and other assorted mythical creatures), and he's way too curious for his own good, but he's smart.

3 - Giles, my beloved. Look, I know that Buffy has its issues (and Joss Whedon turns out is a tool), but Giles has the best lines, and the older I get the more I sympathize with his long suffering love for the Scooby Gang.

actually if anyone wants my more real thoughts sort of not joke thoughts on my very real categories of early modern queerbait, queerbait and post queerbait as well as movements within i would define the beginning of early modern queerbait as ranging from sometime in the 70s when fan culture was beginning and early slash fandoms like kirk/spock and starsky and hutch etc and that leading to in 1979 it becoming known enough that kirk/spock was actually addressed in the infamous motion picture novelization footnote which actually at the time inspired a lot of debate in fan spaces u can read some of the letters into various archived zines if it was totally shutting down the k/s fans and something to be mad about or if it was in fact showing support etc and is a complex interaction between fans and the people creating the works and so on and eventually leading into the 90s where fan engagement became even larger and connected with the internet and in general changing tides of television leading to more follow through and serialized elements that inspires greater fan devotion and theorizing leading into like the x files fans coining the term shipping and in general the deft back and forth they managed with constantly playing between hinting at a romance between mulder and scully but also not going too far to annoy people who were staunchly anti romance etc and shows like buffy cultivating a strong gay fan base and shipping culture while also managing to dabble in both actual gay characters and fun gay subtext as well as again creating an absolutely massive fanbase and levels of creator fanbase interaction that reverberate to this day... and then well theres xena :3 pushing the concept of gay subtext to its literal breaking point and pioneering techniques that will be used in future baits while not being bait itself but also the impact of its writers will be felt forever and i think a great example of gay people having fun behind the scenes a secret fuel of iconic queerbait nobody really considers (keep in mind later since one of the lesbian xena writer/producers was also a writer producer on house and some of the most subtext heavy episodes a somewhat inexplicable inclusion in the queerbait canon but fueled by the same great minds behind xena) and well the demarcation of this early modern period into genuine queerbait probably lies around 2008 with the beginnings of many iconic pieces of the queerbait canon but also that we are beginning to approach levels of gay characters on random network tv shows rarely seen before we approach the glee singularity another show of note since fan engagement and taking brittany and santana seriously by fans and the actresses themselves lead like something that was essentially a somewhat homophobic joke become like a serious major part of the show and like the tipping point from subtext to queerbait era i believe is the fact that like standard homophobic jokes stock standard from decades of tv well we were reaching a point of gay characters being more and more common on tv that it creates a situation where perhaps these jokes are no longer diffusing speculation about a characters sexuality but are in fact increasing it... leading to the queerbait era a confluence of increased more immediate fan engagement shipping culture becoming like fairly mainstream to the point it will be referenced in the shows themselves and increasing presence of gay characters across tv so what used to simply be normal subtext or homophobic jokes or in fact gay writers doing things just for funsies all coalesce into queerbait that we know and love its something with ever shifting definitions but has essentially created a canon of shows that define the concept for itself...

and now as we enter the post queerbait era which might begin after the ends of classics of the queerbait shows like supernatural or supergirl ending in 2020 and 2021 respectively though classic queerbait was obviously in decline earlier than that and that the shifting landscape of gay characters makes that special sauce that peaked in like 2012-2015 lose its luster i do believe the first post queerbait show to be riverdale which like intentionally jokingly engaged with the entire concept in a self aware way its not queerbaiting its saving the world wow so true post queerbait can also be active anxiety about being seen as queerbaiting and engaging directly with that in handling of gay characters that it has now entered general public discourse perhaps people have successfully bullied good omens into a gay kiss when it was so clearly designed to slot into the superwholock era but past its peak we shall see where this goes... anyways we shall see what lies in store for this field of study as other scholars devote their minds to this great task

U - 5 favorite characters from 5 different fandoms

Persona 5: Goro Akechi. My poor little meow meow. His duality fascinates me: who he presents himself to be vs. who he really is, who he wanted to be as a child vs. who he has become now. His slow realization that he’s merely the puppet of more powerful forces in the game (Shido, Yaldabaoth (though he doesn’t quite know this), and Maruki) is heartbreaking, as are the choices that he makes to break free from that control.  

Yuri on Ice: Yuuri Katsuki. He is so important to me. He’s so wrapped up in his head, striving for acknowledgement, for success, for Victor, that he doesn’t see his own talent or how bright of a light that he is. His blossoming over the course of the show is lovely. I desperately wish for a season two of the show (or the long delayed movie) because I want to see more of Yuuri’s journey to discover life and love.

Bungou Stray Dogs: Nakahara Chuuya. I am in aesthetic lust with his design. There’s just something about it that calls to me. The red hair, the jaunty hat, the even jauntier grin, the choker and the coat. He’s a pintsized powerhouse and so achingly human (despite his less than human origins). His dynamic with Dazai is fascinating, and I wish we got to see more of him in the anime & manga.

Final Fantasy XV: Prompto Argentum. See above re: Nakahara Chuuya being so achingly human despite his origins. See above re: Yuuri Katsuki and his anxiety and lack of belief in himself. See above re: Goro Akechi and the power of Robbie Daymond as a voice actor. He’s an anxious ball of sunshine just trying to keep up with royalty, and I love how he helps Noctis to feel human, despite the literal weight of the world on his shoulders.

Game of Thrones: Sansa Stark. Sansa for queen. I found her story the most compelling in the show (it’s been too long since I’ve read the books for me to comment on them). She has such a hard, relentless reality check. The little songbird is nearly crushed by the cruelty of the world, but she finds a way to survive in the figurative lion’s den, without any physical or mystical prowess. She should have been Queen of all Westeros at the end, not just Queen of the North.

V - 3 OTPs from 3 different fandoms

Persona 5: Goro Akechi x Akira Kurusu (Ren Amamiya). Because, to paraphrase Hegel, advancement cannot occur without both thesis and antithesis. Because they are two sides of the same coin. Because in other circumstances they could have been great rivals, maybe even friends. Because Akira is the one person that Goro refuses to lose to. Because Akira held on to the glove. Because Goro being alive & his real, angry, jaded self is Akira’s greatest wish.

Avatar: Katara x Zuko. Because one rises with the moon and the other rises with the sun. Because Katara offered to heal his scar. Because Zuko went with her to find her mother’s killer. Because Katara went with him to confront his sister. Because Zuko threw himself in front of lightning to protect Katara.

 Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Buffy and Spike. Because they are my first online OTP. Because Spike would rather be fighting her (and because the feeling is mutual). Because Spike knows that he’s a monster, but Buffy treats him like a man. Because Buffy asked him to stay. Because Spike made a promise to a lady. Because 147 days yesterday and 148 days today.
